London Covid cases borough by borough revealed as infection rates plunge in the suburbs

S

even outer London boroughs saw the biggest falls in weekly Covid-19 cases, according to the latest figures today.

The official figures show:

  • The seven-day rate in London dipped to 35.8 confirmed new infections per 100,000 people in the week to March 20, down 8.9 per cent on the previous week.
  • The lowest rate in the capital was Hackney and the City of London at 16.5.
  • Thirteen more boroughs had a rate between 20 and 30, and a further eight between 30 and 40.
  • Twenty boroughs continued to see weekly cases fall despite mass testing in schools and more rapid flow testing in workplaces pushing up the number of people found to have the virus.
  • Eleven boroughs saw cases rise.
  • The biggest increase was in Islington, up 46 per cent, though from a low base.
  • A further 39,121 first dose jabs were announced yesterday to have been administered in London, taking the total so far to 2,974,486 in the vaccine roll-out.
  • A further 26,219 second dose inoculations were announced yesterday to have been administered in the capital, taking the total so far to 261,457.
  • The vaccine programme is gradually “flipping” so more second doses will soon be administered daily than first vaccinations.
