Thursday 27 January is Holocaust Memorial Day.

A day where our community will come together to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution of other groups, as well as in genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

This year, we will be marking the day with the premiere of a very special interview with Sutton resident Eve Gill.

Reflecting on this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day theme, ‘One Day’, the interview with Eve focuses on the one day in July 1934, when the then Chancellor of Austria, Engelbert Dollfus, was assassinated and her life changed forever.

Please join us for the premiere of the interview with a special introduction by the Leader of the Council, Ruth Dombey, at 11am on Thursday 27 January. The interview will be hosted on the Council’s YouTube Channel

We also invite you to join the Mayor of Sutton in the national commemoration at 8pm, by lighting candle and putting it in your window (if you are to do so safely) to remember those who were murdered for who they were and stand against prejudice and hatred today.

Schedule for the day

11am: Interview with Eve Gill, with special introduction by the Leader of the Council, Ruth Dombey.

1pm: Interview with Eve Gill to be aired in Sutton Central Library.

8pm: Light the Darkness. Join the Mayor of Sutton in the national in commemoration by lighting candle and putting it in your window, (if you are to do so safely) to remember those who were murdered for who they were and stand against prejudice and hatred today.
