Sutton stabbing leaves man in hospital after knife attack near train station

A man is in hospital after being stabbed in South London on Thursday evening, December 21. The man, 21, arrived at a hospital in South London shortly after 8pm with stab wounds after being attacked in Sutton.

Emergency services were immediately called, and officers from the Metropolitan Police arrived at the hospital. They believe at this stage the man was stabbed close to Sutton railway station.

At present, no arrests have been made, the London police force has confirmed. Officers are continuing their enquiries into the circumstances surrounding this incident. The man remains in hospital where his injuries are not life-threatening.

The full statement from the Metropolitan Police says: “Police were called at about 20:25hrs on Thursday, 21 December to a South London hospital after a male self-presented with stab injuries.

“Officers attended. The 21-year-old man was treated in hospital where his injuries were not life threatening. At this early stage, it is believed that the victim was assaulted close to Sutton Railway Station. There have been no arrests and enquiries continue. Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference CAD 6870/21Dec.”

This is just one of several serious incidents that took place on Thursday. A four-year-old boy was killed after being attacked with a knife in Hackney. A woman aged 41 was arrested at the scene, taken away in handcuffs and ‘covered in blood’. The boy was taken to hospital with knife injuries but later died.

A man was also arrested in the same area after allegedly threatening a member of the public with an axe. Local roads were closed as the police contained the scene in an attempt to speak to the man. It was said he was in possession of a knife and an axe and also threatened to self-harm.
